Nowadays, grapevine wood diseases are the biggest threat to the wine sector, not only nationally but also globally. It is the principal cause to vine mortality. Symptoms begin in the leaves and vine shoots causing an irreversible enervation of the affected plants.

With that in mind and due to the fact that effective treatments do not exist to control these type of diseases, is born RETMAVID 15. This experimental I+D project in which Bodegas Martín Códax cooperates, gathers also two other big wineries from the national scene : Viñas del Vero and Finca Constancia, as well as the Technologic Centers VITEC and IIVV from the UNiversity of León. The goal is to reduce the impact of the grapevine wood diseases and to extend the vineyard production time using new technologies and products.

This project which is called « New technology applications to monitor and extend the vineyard production time as well as the development of new products and strategies to control the grapevine wood diseases », includes big national wine areas which are affected by these diseases, like Castilla La Mancha, Rías Baixas – Galicia and Somontano – Aragón.

With a three year length estimation, RETMAVID has a 971.697,85 € budget to be implemented. To do that, it has received a 731.869,20 € financial aid from El Ministerio de Economía y Competitividad MINECO (Spanish Economy and Competitiveness Ministry) within the I+D+i State Program Retos Colaboración 2015 call which is pointed to Society challenges.
