The managing director of La Chinata, olive oil company from Extremadura, got involved in the family business when he finished his university career in 2003. He studied Business Management and Administration in Madrid and he has always looked for a very international approach studying two years abroad.

La Chinata was founded in 1932. How has the company developed since then?

The first fifty years of the company were very homogeneous. Those years our business was focused on the production of olive oil in rudimentary small olive-oil mills. And all our customers were represented by locals.

At around 25 years ago, when new generations got involved in the company, the business concept completely changed and we started to increase our olive oil production for being able to sell it all around the country.

Step by step we’ve been able to grow. The company has adapted to the market’s needs and nowadays we have an incredible net of distributors and importers in 25 different countries all over the world.

Apart from making olive oil and different gourmet products, you’ve also developed a wide range of cosmetic products. When and why have you decided to introduce this new line of products in your company?

Ten years ago, we decided to take the virgin extra olive oil remains to make handcrafted soaps. Shortly after, our cosmetic sales had increased a lot and we weren’t able to supply all our customer orders and we had to industrialize this new business line. Since then we’ve been increasing the number of products and nowadays we have more than 50 different cosmetic products.

We’re really proud of having the most important cosmetic products line based on the natural properties of the virgin extra olive oil in Spain.

Moreover, the Investment and Research Activities in your company are really important. What are your main activities and researches in this field nowadays?

It is obvious we invest a lot in the development and research of our products. Nowadays, we have more than 200 different products and, as our growth is being positive, we’re introducing from two to five new references per month.

Moreover, we’re implementing new sales methods. Our website is constantly being developed and updated and we have new projects and ideas waiting to be implemented.

Regarding to the collaboration between Martín Códax and La Chinata and the event celebrated together, what would you like to emphasize?

I think Martín Códax shares our idea of the business and the current situation of the market. In our company it is very important everything related with the gastronomy and we always try to reflect it in our activities, sponsors and events.

Martín Códax is already one of the references in the wine business and we’re trying to develop the oil business through the same way: making tastings, specialized shops, events, and so on

The event was awesome. Yayo Daporta was able to perfectly pair our products together with the wine and the attendance couldn’t be better.

In our winery you had the opportunity to taste our wines, what was your favorite and what place would you choose to enjoy it?

The most surprising wine for me was Organistrum, the barrel fermented albariño. I think it is different to any other I’ve ever tasted. And I think the best place to drink it is enjoying the beautiful sunsets of the Rías Baixas surrounded by all your friends like we did last 28th July in the new terrace of Martín Códax.
