These days we’re harvesting the grapes for making Martín Códax Gallaecia.

Some weeks after having finished the harvest, we’re ready to harvest again! In Bodegas Martín Códax, year after year, we harvest several selected vineyards nearly a month later.

The grapes from these selected vineyards are used to make Martín Códax Gallaecia, the unique late harvest made with Albariño grapes. In 25 years of history, we’ve only been able to make Gallaecia five times due to the special weather conditions that are necessary to have the grapes affected by the desired Noble Rot (Botrytis Cinerea). It is a special kind of fungus that affects the grapes and they have notes of very ripe fruit and honey.  Although we are aware that during this extra month we can lose the production the final result worths it. Will this year be the ideal year for making the new vintage of Martín Códax Gallaecia? Only time will have the answer.
