Culture, a pillar
of our identity

At Bodegas Martín Códax, we firmly believe that wine is only one part of our story and that our culture is the soul of our Galician identity. Since our beginnings, we have promoted and supported diverse cultural and artistic initiatives, establishing ourselves as a winery deeply connected to Galician traditions and to creativity as a vehicle for the expression of our people. Through projects like Os Xoves de Códax (Códax Thursdays) and sponsorships such as the Martín Códax Music Awards and the Outono Códax Festival, we seek to share our passion for culture with the world.

OS XOVES DE CÓDAX: MUSIC, WINE AND SOLIDARITY

Every summer, our winery terrace transforms into the stage for a unique concert series: Os Xoves de Códax. This event combines the best of live music, gastronomy, and, of course, our wines. During July and August, we offer our visitors the opportunity to enjoy performances by Galician artists and artists from around the world, with genres ranging from traditional Galician music to jazz, pop, indie, and flamenco.

But what truly makes Os Xoves de Códax special, and what makes it a unique cultural event aligned with our values, is its commitment to solidarity. All proceeds go directly to various charities and social projects, reaffirming our connection to culture and social welfare. Furthermore, the spectacular views of the Arousa estuary and the magical atmosphere of the winery make this event an unforgettable experience.

Martín Códax Music Awards

The Martín Códax Music Awards were established with the aim of raising the profile of Galician music and recognising the talent of our artists. Organised by the Músicas ao Vivo Association, these awards celebrate the creativity and quality of Galician music productions, highlighting both emerging and established artists, and thereby contributing to the promotion and support of the Galician music scene.

Through a range of categories, the awards aim to strengthen Galicia’s musical identity and provide a platform to support the sector, whilst fostering the creation of cultural networks. As sponsors, we reaffirm our commitment to Galician music and culture, promoting the dissemination of its diversity and richness.

Outono Códax Festival

The Outono Códax Festival has established itself as the most important Black music event in Galicia. Featuring genres such as soul, blues, rock & roll, rhythm & blues, and swing, this festival offers a vibrant experience where music and culture merge. Throughout November, national and international artists gather in Santiago de Compostela to present a unique program that attracts music lovers from all corners of the world.

The Outono Códax Festival is not only a music festival, but also a meeting place, where music, art, gastronomy and culture are celebrated in their broadest sense.

Martín Códax Poetry Prize

From 1992 to 2000, Bodegas Martín Códax organised the Martín Códax Poetry Prize, a highly prestigious literary competition aimed at promoting Galician literature. This prize, which sought to recognise and promote the creativity of Galician poets, helped to establish prominent authors within the literary scene.

The winning works were published by Editorial Galaxia as part of the Dombate collection, enabling these award-winning poetic voices to reach a wider audience and be recognised for their quality and connection to the Galician tradition.

Martín Códax Early Music Group

The Martín Códax Early Music Group was a musical project born with the aim of recovering and disseminating Galician medieval music, especially the cantigas of the troubadour Martín Códax, one of the most emblematic poets of the 13th century. The group dedicated itself to performing Códax’s cantigas, preserved in ancient codices, and to reviving the musical traditions of Galicia.

This project was part of our commitment to Galician culture, merging winemaking tradition with the rich musical heritage of our land and giving visibility to medieval music as a living and vibrant cultural legacy.

At Bodegas Martín Códax, we understand that art and culture are the soul of our region, and we are proud to support initiatives that celebrate our identity, our traditions, and our creativity.
