We are absolutely thrilled to let you know that our Martín Códax Arousa 2023 has just been awarded the Acio de Ouro (Gold Award) at the 2026 Galicia Wine Tastings (Catas de Galicia 2026). This is the highest recognition in the “White Wines from Previous Vintages” category—an award that fills us with pride and honors the hard work of our entire team and our dedicated winegrowers.
This category is one of the most demanding in the entire competition, as it features wines with great complexity, personality, and, above all, aging potential. For us, this award is the ultimate validation of a journey we started years ago: proving the incredible aging potential of the Albariño grape and crafting wines that faithfully express our terroir and the passage of time.
The Secret is in the Ría
If you are already familiar with Martín Códax Arousa, you know this is no ordinary Albariño. It is born from a meticulous selection of grapes grown on tiny plots right at the mouth of the Umia River, in the heart of the Ría de Arousa. These vineyards are tended by winegrowers with deep-rooted maritime traditions. Being so close to the ocean, they receive the direct influence of the Atlantic, which infuses the wine with its signature salty character and brilliant mineral expression.
After a careful harvest, we age the wine on its lees. The result? A wine that gains complexity and volume on the palate while keeping that signature freshness we love so much. In the end, every single bottle is the ultimate expression of the Val do Salnés terroir: an elegant, deep Albariño with incredible aging potential that truly captures the identity of the Ría de Arousa.
